The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot is a competition for law students to foster the study and practice of international commercial sales law and arbitration.
The Moot involves a dispute arising out of a contract of sale between two countries that are party to the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. The contract provides that any dispute that might arise is to be settled by arbitration in Danubia, a country that has enacted the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration and is a party to the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards. The arbitral rules to be applied rotate yearly among the arbitration rules of co-sponsoring institutions of the Moot.
At LCA Studio Legale we are committed to advancing international arbitration and fostering the next generation of arbitration professionals. As part of our activities, we organize the LCA Pre-Moot to help students prepare for the main Vis Moot oral hearings. Participants will have the opportunity to practice their advocacy skills, develop legal arguments, and engage in simulated arbitration hearings judged by experienced practitioners.
This year, we are hosting the 2nd LCA Pre-Moot, with the support of the Milan Chamber of Arbitration (CAM) and the Italian Association for Arbitration (AIA).
The 2nd LCA Pre-Moot is scheduled on March 18, 2025, in Milan, Italy. It will be held in person only.
Our Pre-Moot offers Vis Moot teams the opportunity to compete with peers and refine their legal arguments. Participants will practice oral advocacy before panels of legal experts and receive personalized feedback.
This Pre-Moot event is also an opportunity for networking with other students, legal professionals, and academics involved in the international arbitration community.
General Rules
The 2nd LCA Pre-Moot follows the official Vis Moot Problem and the Rules established by the Vis Moot (available here).
Teams eligible to compete must have successfully registered for the Vis Moot and be confirmed to participate in the oral rounds in Vienna or Hong Kong.
Arbitrators
Our arbitrators are experienced legal professionals, including lawyers, arbitrators, and scholars. These practitioners provide valuable feedback, helping the competing teams strengthen their cases for the Vis Moot competition.
Registration
To register for the 2nd LCA Pre-Moot, teams are invited to complete the registration form available at this link by February 15, 2025. Early registration is welcomed.
We kindly ask that teams commit to participation once registered, as withdrawals negatively affect the competition’s schedule.
Given the limited number of spots available, after the deadline, LCA will review the application received and will inform the teams selected in timely fashion: please consider that your admission to the LCA Pre-Moot is dependent upon the reception of such written confirmation.”
