For the 10th anniversary of the Law is Art! project, LCA Studio Legale chooses the renowned photographer Letizia Battaglia (1935-2022), who documented as the main female witness Sicily between the ‘70s and ’90s. With a visionary, empathic, and sharp eye, she portrayed the complexity of Palermo without any sugarcoating.

«Letizia Battaglia: Stories of Freedom Regained» opens on Wednesday, November 8, at the Milan headquarters of the Law Firm, in Via della Moscova 18.

The exhibition, organised in partnership with Archivio Letizia Battaglia, Francesco Pantaleone Arte Contemporanea Gallery, ARTE Generali, and Apice, is part of Law is Art!, LCA’s project born in 2013 with the aim of promoting contemporary art in the Milanese and Italian scene, beyond the traditional circuits.

Over the years, LCA’s Milan office has hosted works by Tatiana Trouvé, Letizia Cariello, Chiara Camoni, Botto & Bruno, Franco Guerzoni, Silvia Camporesi, Silvio Wolf, Rä di Martino, Alessandra Spranzi, and Marta Spagnoli, as well as projects by important photographic collectives and fine art academies. Whereas at Palazzo Borromeo, always in Milan, LCA has exhibited works by Letizia Cariello, Brigitte March Niedermair, Michele Guido, Mattia Bosco, Sabrina Mezzaqui, Francesco Arena, and Stefano Arienti. Since 2022, with Massimiliano Camellini’s photographic exhibition, the Genoa office has also been added to the exhibition venues.

The collaboration with Archivio Letizia Battaglia also highlights the significant professional work of LCA’s art law department, which assisted Letizia Battaglia in establishing the Archive before her passing away, and currently advises the Archive in the valorisation and management of the Sicilian artist’s work.

Thanks to its knowledge of the art system and its recognised legal and fiscal expertise in the field, the firm assists artists, gallery owners, museums, collectors, cultural institutions, and professionals associated with the art world in various capacities, with a cross-practice, interdisciplinary team of professionals.

«Getting to know Letizia and helping her establish her own archive was a privilege: this exhibition is a tribute to her remarkable work» says lawyer Maria Grazia Longoni, head of LCA’s Art team.

«The aim is to introduce a person and an artist with a boundless, almost anomalous curiosity about the world» write the exhibition’s curators, Marta and Matteo Sollima, Letizia’s grandchildren, who are now leading the Archive.
