2024 Sustainability Report: LCA builds a responsible future

The 2024 Report marks a decisive step in the Firm’s journey toward an increasingly transparent, measurable, and long-term-oriented professional model. It is the year of our twentieth anniversary, an important milestone that coincides with a period of strong internal growth and a renewed commitment to ESG matters within the legal sector

One of the most significant innovations of this year’s Report is the adoption of the new voluntary EFRAG VSME standard, designed to support companies and professional firms in the transition toward more structured reporting practices. LCA is adopting this standard as a preparatory phase ahead of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), embracing a disclosure model increasingly aligned with leading European sustainability reporting practices.

Marking LCA’s twentieth anniversary, the Sustainability Report opens with founder Giovanni Lega’s reflection on the meaning of sustainability for the Firm: “For LCA, sustainability means responsibility towards the future. Creating a law firm model that evolves, endures, and can pass on what has been built with passion and vision.”

His words encapsulate our commitment as a sustainability-oriented law firm, where economic growth, people development, and innovation coexist with the ambition to generate a positive impact on the professional ecosystem and on society as a whole.

ENVIRONMENT | LCA’s actions to reduce environmental impact

The environmental section of LCA’s 2024 Sustainability Report reaffirms the growing importance of climate policies even for law firms. Although operating in a sector with relatively moderate impact, LCA has long invested in a responsible management model aimed at reducing consumption, emissions, and waste.

In 2024, the Firm strengthened its energy-efficiency efforts across its offices by implementing high-efficiency HVAC systems, LED lighting, high-performance windows, and automated consumption controls during evening and holiday hours. At the same time, the digitalization of IT infrastructure – particularly the migration of servers to the cloud – significantly reduced the Firm’s energy footprint.

LCA also consolidated its emissions measurement process for Scopes 1, 2, and 3, covering energy use, employee mobility, remote working, procurement, and office services across its Milan, Rome, and Genoa offices. This is a crucial step toward the future adoption of an ISO 14064-1–compliant system.

Day-to-day environmental awareness is also reflected in plastic-free policies, structured waste sorting, the use of recycled materials, and circular economy initiatives such as the LCA orchard, which in its first three years absorbed approximately 1.69 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent.

SOCIAL | People and community at the heart of LCA’s sustainability

LCA regards its people as its primary point of distinction. 2024 marked a significant phase of growth for the Firm – totalling 318 professionals and employees as of December 31 – and the opening of new workspaces dedicated to well-being, collaboration, and training.

Among the most important initiatives were the expansion of flexible work policies, the strengthening of internal welfare measures, and the evolution of the Firm’s parenthood policy, which now provides advanced support for both women and men.

The development of an integrated learning ecosystem also continued with the creation of LCA Academy, offering technical courses, managerial development programs, cultural seminars, and soft-skill training. Complementing these efforts, the Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging Team led the Firm through the second year of monitoring for UNI PdR 125:2022 gender equality certification, confirming LCA as one of the leading players in the Italian legal landscape.

But 2024 was above all the year of LCA Sociale, the corporate volunteering program that engaged over 200 people and generated more than 400 hours of activities in support of organizations focused on inclusion, health, and vulnerable communities. Reinforcing its commitment to social responsibility, the Firm also allocated over €250,000 to social, cultural, and sports initiatives – around 1.25% of its pre-tax profit, a level of investment higher than the average of large European companies adhering to the CECP/B4SI international standards (approximately 0.9%).

GOVERNANCE | Ethics, innovation, and transparency

Governance is the foundation of our sustainability model. In 2024, LCA strengthened its organizational system based on shared responsibility, professional ethics, and the active participation of internal stakeholders.

The implementation of the 231 Organizational Model, the adoption of the new Code of Ethics, the launch of a structured whistleblowing system, and ongoing investments in cybersecurity all reflect the Firm’s commitment to solid and highly reliable processes.

In parallel, LCA continues to stand out for its innovation-driven approach, integrating tools such as AISeek—a proprietary artificial intelligence platform—legal design projects, and entrepreneurial initiatives through LCA Ventures. The supply chain is also evolving toward a more sustainable model, thanks to a structured process that will lead to the introduction of a Supplier Code of Conduct and ESG criteria for partner selection.
