Facts and figures aside though, I cannot stress enough that LCA is made up of outstanding people. The concept of sustainability is based on the idea of \u200b\u200bdurability, of meeting the needs of the present without ever compromising the needs of the future.\u201d This is how Giovanni Lega, managing partner, introduces LCA’s first sustainability report, following the two social reports prepared in 2022 and 2023.<\/p>\n
Sustainability for LCA goes beyond numbers. It is a path of collective growth, built day by day thanks to the contribution of each and every individual. \u201cFor law firms like ours, the key path forward is to practice the profession in a collaborative manner, with an organisation that places people at the core and is built upon the four principles of recruiting, retaining, developing, and handing down,\u201d comments Lega.<\/p>\n
The report provides an overview of the approach taken by LCA in relation to sustainability in the calendar year 2023, understood in its broadest sense and thus declined into the three ESG factors, \u201cEnvironment,\u201d \u201cSocial,\u201d and \u201cGovernance.\u201d Within this process, the GRI Standards have played a fundamental role; additional principles have then been combined with these, in order to make the framework complete and exhaustive. To ensure continuous improvement, these principles serve as the foundation for our journey towards full compliance with the latest European innovations in reporting, particularly related to the first set of European Sustainability Reporting Standards adopted by the European Commission.<\/p>\n
Area \u201cE\u201d Environment<\/b><\/p>\n
Although we do not operate in a sector with a high environmental impact, we have initiated, within our offices and our working environment, an analysis of the impact of our activity to implement a more responsible behavior. From the constant path of converting paper to digital, to the complete elimination of single-use plastic, from attention in the proper disposal of waste, to the responsible consumption of energy and CO2, we have measured and established goals through actions that are not limited to simply reducing, but also and above all to awareness and compensation.<\/p>\n
Area \u201cS\u201d Social<\/b><\/p>\n
The \u201cSocial\u201d area is a key element of sustainability for LCA. With an emphasis on the well-being of people, communities, and various stakeholders, developing inclusive policies and welfare tools that go beyond professional activities is in our DNA. In fact, investments that include areas such as gender equality and inclusion, professional growth, health, family support as well as charitable and cultural initiatives contribute not only to improving quality of life, but also strengthen the bond of trust with employees as well as customers and other stakeholders. We pay special attention to parenting, with a more extensive paternity leave project in the pipeline, and to work-life balance, which is so important and topical, a priority for young people too. It is precisely to young people that we give more and more space and spending capacity so that they can develop their network with confidence. Gender equality, also thanks to the certification obtained in 2022 under the UNI Reference Practice 125:2022, and the (almost unique in the legal landscape and beyond) focus on specific learning disorders (SLDs) are historic campaigns of action and mobilization for LCA, which we continue strongly to support.<\/p>\n
Area \u201cG\u201d Governance<\/b><\/p>\n
The adoption of a 231 Organisation and Control Model was formally approved on 19 December 2023. Together with that of the Code of Ethics, this choice has allowed and will allow us to achieve and strengthen the adoption of fair and transparent management practices, prevent risks and at the same time spread an organizational culture based on prevention and responsibility, strengthen the system of controls, improve the organizational structure and ensure compliance.<\/p>\n
But when it comes to governance, innovative input has always been one of LCA’s pillars. Not only technological innovation, with artificial intelligence and the advanced tools we invest in, but also social innovation, distributing a share of profits to all and sundry employees, investing in the arts and profitable collaborations for the community.<\/p>\n
